To seasoned Jack Reacher fans, you know exactly what you’re going to get from this Lee Child series: high-octane, adrenaline-filled, easy-to-read action with brutally articulated scenes of violence and general havoc that only Jack Reacher can bring! Why open a tin of beans with a can opener when you can use a sledgehammer?!

In this caper, he awakens shackled with a badly injured hand and no recollection of the incident that got him there. He then uses all his remaining (and considerable) might and military investigative nous to uncover the truth and deliver vengeance like only he can!

He’s ably assisted this time by Jenny Knight, a detective on the same trail as Reacher but with a different, very personal score to settle. Her character doesn’t offer enough to the narrative or the outcome, and it all feels a little clichéd and unromantic to say, but I also don’t think he needs to ‘get the girl’ in all his escapades – James Bond he is not!

That said, if you’re looking for a likable all-action hero crime thriller when you just want to switch off, you can’t go too far wrong with a Lee Child ‘Jack Reacher’ novel, and ‘In Too Deep’ does exactly what it says on the tin.

Others I’d recommend more readily are Jack’s first outing in ‘Killing Floor’ and ‘Make Me’. NB: ‘Killing Floor’, ‘Bad Luck and Trouble’, and ‘Persuader’ have also been televised by Amazon Prime, if you’re a fan of this genre and this series in particular, you’ll definitely get your fill with these as well!
