Gift a Book

We’d like your help in spreading some festive joy this season! Gift a Book to someone who might not receive a gift or who might be lonely over the festive period.

When can I donate?

Monday 11 November – Saturday 30 November 2024

Where can I donate?

  • Bath Central Library
  • Midsomer Norton Library & Advice Service
  • Keynsham Library & Advice Service
  • Bath Housing, Welfare & Advice Service
  • Saltford Community Library, Love Weston Library, Timsbury Community Library, Chew Valley Library

What can I donate?

  • Books can be new or as new. Your book will be opened by someone on Christmas day as a present. A good rule of thumb is ‘Would I like to receive this as a gift?’
  • Books for all ages and genres.
  • Not sure? Follow our guidance:

Yes, please!

  • books with crisp, clean white pages
  • no creases in the spine e.g. looks unread
  • books for adults, young adults and children

No, thank you!

  • spine – if broken, creased or pages coming away, splits or gaps when book is opened
  • book covers that are stained, faded, or ripped or have dirty edges or smell damp/musty
  • yellowing, stained, torn, scribbled on, loose, ripped, cockled (ie looks wavy as a result of damp) pages
  • any non-fiction published before 2023
  • anything offensive that may cause upset

Will my donation make a difference?

Hear from some of last years recipients….

‘’We are very delighted with the books that were gifted to us. The books will make a massive impact upon children’s lives in our area.’’

Action For Children

’’Youth Connect South West are very happy to receive the books from the gift a book campaign and would like to give a big thank you to BANES library customers. Being able to give books and have books available to our children, young people and communities is an amazing gift, many homes don’t have books and this will encourage reading at home’’.

Youth Connect South West

‘‘The books went like ‘hot-cakes’ for both children and adults.’’

Somer Valley Foodbank Team

‘’Thank you so much for including us in your Gift a Book scheme. They were very well received. They were all laid out, together with chocolate, mince pies, etc. We are so grateful to all the Library customers who enabled us to receive some wonderful books to give to our guests at the Welcome Café in Weston. We handed them out together with chocolates, mince pies and other goodies at our big Christmas Party. Thank you from all of us.’’

Weston Welcome Café

“The books have been well received and have been quickly used up by our clients as Christmas presents for their children”
