Grimwood is the first book in a series of four, centred around the adventures of two foxes, Ted and Nancy. After an incident with an evil cat named Princess Buttons, they are forced to leave their home in the ‘Big City’ and move to the fictional forest of Grimwood. However, their move does not free them from Princess Buttons’ plans for revenge. This light-hearted adventure story is perfect for independent readers in KS2. Read on for Lottie, aged 7, review of the book.
What do you like about this book?
I like this book because it’s really funny and there are kind and caring characters who are very inspiring. Eric Dynamite is a woodlouse who is the narrator. He tells you all of his thoughts and feelings throughout all of the Grimwood books. The funniest thing he says is “Oh what I would do for a sticky bun.”
What do you not like about Grimwood?
Nothing – I love everything. That is why it is my second favourite book after Roald Dahl books. Although my favourite Grimwood book is actually ‘Let the Fur Fly!’
Who is your favourite character?
I like the character Willow (the bunny) because she’s very funny. Someone tries to tell her she is very cute but she shouts, “I’M NOT CUTE”!
Who would you recommend this book to?
I would recommend this book to people who enjoy adventure and mystery stories and also people who like telling jokes and reading comedies.
Were you able to read this book on your own?
I was able to read this on my own as there are not too many long words. What I like about it is the chapters and the illustrations.
