Join ecologist and conservationist Dr Richard Young, CEO of Beaver Trust, for an engaging talk on the return of the Eurasian beaver to Britain and the remarkable impact these animals can have on our landscapes.
Known as “ecosystem engineers”, beavers reshape waterways through their foraging and dam-building behaviour, creating rich wetland habitats that support a wide range of wildlife. Their influence extends beyond biodiversity, helping to improve water quality, reduce flood risk, and increase resilience to drought.
Following the driest and hottest summers on record, this talk will explore how beaver restoration could play a vital role in tackling the climate and nature crises, helping to restore degraded ecosystems and build more resilient landscapes for the future.
About the Speaker
Dr Richard Young is an ecologist, nature conservationist and CEO of Beaver Trust, whose mission is to restore beavers to regenerate our land and riverscapes. Based in Bath, Richard spends as much time as possible on the River Avon observing the return of beavers to local waterways.
